Made-To-Order, Made-To-Measure and Bespoke: What You Need to Know

Made-To-Order, Made-To-Measure and Bespoke: What You Need to Know

Choosing between Made-to-Order (MTO), Made-to-Measure (MTM), and Bespoke can feel overwhelming, especially if you're new to the world of custom clothing. Each option offers a unique approach to tailoring, with varying levels of customization, fit, and craftsmanship. Whether you're seeking a perfectly tailored suit for a special occasion or looking to elevate your everyday wardrobe, understanding the differences between MTO, MTM, and Bespoke is essential. In this blog post, we'll break down each option, highlight their key features, and help you determine which one best suits your style, budget, and needs.

1. Made-to-Order

Made-to-order (MTO) jackets strike a balance between off-the-rack convenience and personalized design. This option offers a range of fabric choices and customisation on select measurements, allowing you to add your unique touch without the bespoke price tag.

Fabric Selections and Construction

Our MTO tier at Seamless Bespoke features a diverse selection of fabrics, from in-house offerings to prestigious mills such as VBC, Dugdale etc., ensuring accessibility without compromising quality. From single to double breasted options, you’ll be able to choose and customise your jacket designs with a variety of choices.

Our MTO jackets are constructed with a half-canvas structure, offering an upgrade option to full canvas for enhanced durability and shape retention, albeit at an additional cost. They are based on standard block patterns, with adjustments available for jacket length, sleeve length, and waist. It's important to note that fittings or alterations are not included in the base price, and additional charges may apply.

Is MTO suitable for you?

Made-to-order is ideal for individuals seeking a quicker turnaround and some level of customization. It suits clients whose body measurements closely align with standard sizes. However, for those with unique body features like straight or sloping shoulders, adjustments may be necessary to achieve a good fit.

2. Made-to-Measure

Next up, we have Made-to-Measure which takes customization a step further by modifying a standard pattern to fit your specific measurements. Similar to the MTO tier, you have a wide array of fabric options and design customisations to choose from.

Enhanced Fit and Construction

Our MTM jackets feature a full canvas construction, which adds additional structure and weight, allowing the suit jacket to mold more accurately to your shape with a superior drape. This process involves tailoring a standard block pattern to better suit your body shape and measurements.

MTM appeals to individuals who desire a more personalized fit than off-the-rack clothing but do not require the extensive customization of bespoke tailoring. It's an excellent choice for those who appreciate craftsmanship and seek a better fit within a reasonable timeframe. However, individuals with distinct shoulder shapes or other unique features may still require additional adjustments and fittings which our Bespoke services will be able to cater for.

3. Bespoke

Last, welcome to our House Bespoke tier—the creme de la creme of what we offer at Seamless Bespoke. Derived from the term "bespeak," our House Bespoke Tier provides our clients with exceptional fit, superior craftsmanship, and a attention to detail. Choose from a wide array of luxurious fabrics such as Loro Piana, Zegna, Scabal, and Holland & Sherry.

Craftmanship and Fitting Process

Each bespoke jacket is meticulously crafted from scratch, taking into account your body posture and unique nuances to achieve a perfect fit. The process involves extensive handwork, including a fully hand-canvassed lapel that ensures our signature roll. Unlimited fittings are included to refine the fit, with alterations tailored to your specifications. The lead time for bespoke tailoring is typically 10 weeks or more, depending on the number of fittings required.

Bespoke tailoring caters to clients who value the investment in high-quality hand craftsmanship and seek garments tailored precisely to their measurements and body posture. If you appreciate and value meticulous detail, handwork, and a flawless fit, our bespoke service is designed to exceed your expectations.

We hope this comprehensive guide clarifies the distinctions between MTO, MTM, and Bespoke tailoring options, helping you make an informed decision based on your preferences and requirements. Whether you value the convenience of made-to-order, the enhanced fit of made-to-measure, or the unparalleled craftsmanship of a bespoke garment, you now have the knowledge to choose the option that best suits your style and needs.
